The nave
Karlskirche, Karlsplatz 10, 1040 Wien
Fischer von Erlach’s domed church on Karlsplatz, vowed by Charles VI after the plague of 1713 and finished in 1737 — one of the great Baroque churches of Europe, and since 2008 the concert home of Orchester 1756.
106 nights · 2 October 2026 – 30 March 2027
Who plays
A Baroque orchestra in a Baroque church
Orchester 1756 was founded in Salzburg in 2006 by the conductor and harpsichordist Konstantin Hiller — the city’s first permanent Baroque orchestra — and has played the Karlskirche in Vienna since 2008, which it now calls its musical home. Since 2014 the Greek violinist Dimitris Karakantas has been its concertmaster and its usual soloist.
The ensemble plays on historical original instruments and works from the stylistics and rhetoric of the 17th and 18th centuries; the concert runs sixty-five to seventy-five minutes without an interval. The church is a few steps from the ground where Antonio Vivaldi, who died in Vienna in 1741, was buried.

Know before you book
- The church assigns your seat inside the category you choose; we ask for your party to be seated together.
- Sixty-five to seventy-five minutes without an interval. The Four Seasons every night, with further Baroque works around them — the orchestra compiles the programme itself and may change it on the night.
- One room: the nave of the Karlskirche on Karlsplatz. Almost every night begins at 8:15 p.m.; each date prints its own start time and admission is from about thirty minutes before. Nobody is admitted once the concert has begun.
- The church cannot be heated: dress warmly from autumn to spring. Step-free access, and there is no restroom inside the church.
- Your QR e-ticket and wallet pass are issued the moment you pay.
Questions guests ask
What is included in the price?
Everything. The price shown is the price charged: our booking fee is €0.00 and we print it on your order at €0.00 rather than leaving it out.
When is my ticket issued?
At checkout. Your QR code, wallet pass and PDF exist the moment your card is charged.
Why can I not pick a seat?
The church publishes no seat plan. You book a category — the front, the middle or the back of the nave — and the church seats you inside it.
How long is the concert?
Sixty-five to seventy-five minutes, with no interval. Doors are about thirty minutes before the start.
How should I dress?
As you like, but warmly in the colder months: the Karlskirche is a Baroque church and cannot be heated. There is no dress code.
Can I change the date?
Yes, free, until 48 hours before, for the same category, up to twice. If the new date costs more you pay the difference; if it costs less, your original price stands.
Until when can I cancel?
Fourteen days from purchase, and never inside 48 hours of the concert — whichever comes first. The exact date is printed on your order line.
Will my party sit together?
We always book your party on one order and ask the church to seat you together inside your category. If they seat you apart, tell us and we will put it right.
What if you cannot supply it?
You are refunded in full and immediately, whatever the date, and told that we could not supply it. There is no voucher and no substitute you did not choose.
