One meeting point, printed on your confirmation

Heldenplatz fiaker stand, Heldenplatz, 1010. The meeting point is fixed and printed on your confirmation; the carriage does not collect from a hotel.

Volkstheater (U2, U3) and Herrengasse (U3) are both a few minutes away; the stand is on the Ring side of the square, at the Burgtor.

  • Open carriage. In winter that means blankets and cold hands, and in rain it means wet.
  • The driver talks if you want them to and does not if you do not. Say which.

The carriages

Landaus and calèches, two horses each, on the stands and the streets of the first district.

  • Two white Fiaker horses in harness, red plumes on their bridles, in front of a red-wheeled carriage.
  • Fiaker carriages waiting on the cobbles of Michaelerplatz, the Hofburg façade behind them.
  • Two carriages crossing Heldenplatz towards the Ring, the Rathaus tower on the skyline.

The ride at a glance

The product page carries each route’s published duration and price. The stopping rule is the drivers’, stated as theirs.

What
A private horse-drawn carriage through Vienna’s first district, with a departure time arranged in advance and a pinned meeting point rather than a queue at a rank. Two routes at the city’s fixed tariff: the short tour, twenty minutes, and the grand tour, forty.
Who drives
Vienna Fiaker operators — the carriage, the horses and the driver are theirs. We book the departure and print the meeting point.
How it is priced
Per carriage, never per person. There is no child fare and no age boundary to print, because nobody aboard is charged individually.
Where
Heldenplatz fiaker stand, Heldenplatz. Printed on your confirmation; the carriage does not collect from a hotel.
Availability
A slot is open or it is taken — never a count of carriages, because they are the drivers’ and not ours to count.
The horses
The drivers work to welfare rules and those rules are never moved for a booking. Horses rest when they are due to rest. Above a certain summer temperature the carriages stop and stand in the shade, and in ice they do not go out at all. If that cancels your ride, you are refunded in full — it is a failure to supply, and the 48-hour rule has nothing to do with it.
Changes
Free date change until 48 hours before, the same window as everything we sell. If a ride cannot run, refunded in full. The rule is on changes and refunds.
Know before you book
Both fares are per carriage, not per person, and a carriage seats up to four on its two benches. There is no child price, because nobody aboard is charged individually. You meet the carriage at the stand on Heldenplatz by the Äußeres Burgtor, at your booked time, with the driver’s carriage number on your booking. The driver waits ten minutes. The carriages, the horses and the drivers belong to licensed Vienna Fiaker operators; we book the departure. Our booking fee is €0.00. Rides run in ordinary weather — the landau has a hood and there is a blanket — but not in ice, under a storm warning, or above the city’s summer heat limit. Those are the drivers’ rules about their horses, and a rest is never moved for a booking. A slot is open or it is taken. We never print how many carriages are left, because they are not ours to count.

Questions guests ask

Answered at the counter, by a person.

Is the price per person or per carriage?

Is the price per person or per carriage?

Per carriage. €60 for the short tour and €105 for the grand tour buys the whole carriage, whether one of you rides or four. It is the city’s fixed tariff and our booking fee is €0.00.

How many people fit, and can children come?

How many people fit, and can children come?

Up to four, on two facing benches, and children are very welcome. There is no child price because there is no per-person price at all — the fare is for the carriage.

Where exactly do we meet the carriage?

Where exactly do we meet the carriage?

At the stand on Heldenplatz, by the Äußeres Burgtor. Your booking carries the departure time and the driver’s carriage number, and the driver waits ten minutes.

What happens in bad weather?

What happens in bad weather?

The landau has a hood and there is a blanket, so ordinary rain and cold are fine. Ice, a storm warning or heat above the city’s limit stop the ride, and you are refunded in full — those are the drivers’ rules about their horses, not ours.

How are the horses treated?

How are the horses treated?

Vienna regulates it: rest periods, a heat limit that takes carriages off the street, and licensed operators. A rest is never moved for a booking, which is occasionally inconvenient and is the right way round.

Can the carriage take us to a concert?

Can the carriage take us to a concert?

The tours are loops from the Heldenplatz stand rather than transfers. If you want a carriage to a particular door at a particular time, ask us and we will see whether an operator will do it.

Why does a time slot say taken rather than how many carriages are left?

Why does a time slot say taken rather than how many carriages are left?

Because the carriages are not ours to count. We can tell you truthfully whether a departure is open or gone; a number would be a guess about somebody else’s stable, and we would rather show you two honest states than four invented ones.
