Know before you book
- It is free to join and free to reserve. No card is taken at any point; at the end you tip what you feel, or nothing.
- We meet by the fountain on Albertinaplatz, 1010 Vienna, behind the State Opera. The guide holds a small claret sign and the walk leaves on time.
- About three kilometres, unhurried, ending near Stephansplatz. Two hours.
- Reserving keeps the group to twenty-five, which is the only reason we ask you to.
- In English every day, and in German on Sundays.
Questions guests ask
Is the free walk really free?
Yes. It is free to reserve and free to walk, and no card is taken at any point. At the end you tip your guide what you feel it was worth, including nothing.
Why do I need to reserve a free walk?
Only to keep the group to twenty-five. A group of forty cannot hear the guide in a courtyard, so the places are counted — and because these are our own walks, that count is a real one.
Where exactly do we meet, and how will I find the guide?
By the fountain on Albertinaplatz, 1010 Vienna, immediately behind the State Opera. The guide holds a small claret sign. Your reservation carries a map pin and a photograph of the spot.
Who leads the walk?
One of our own guides — licensed by the city, salaried by us, and not working for tips alone. The same people lead the free walk and the specials.
Do walks run in bad weather?
Yes, in anything short of a storm warning. If we do cancel you hear by 08:00 with a link to rebook — at breakfast, not at the meeting point.
Do children pay?
Under-12s walk free on every tour, including the paid specials. They still take one of the places, so reserve for them too.
Can I bring a stroller?
On the daily walk, yes — the whole route manages one. On the specials, ask us first: the courtyards and cellars have steps and small doors.
What does it cost to book?
Our booking fee is €0.00, and we print it on your order at €0.00 rather than leaving it out.
Can I change the date?
Yes, free, up to 48 hours before the walk. The exact deadline is printed on your order line.
Getting there
Albertinaplatz
Albertinaplatz, 1010 Wien — By the fountain
Karlsplatz (U1, U2, U4) and the Opera tram stops are both a minute away; the fountain is on the opera side of the square.
Comparing?
Everything we sell, day by day, is on what’s on; the others like it are on walking tours.
